The city is full of local heroes making their communities better through good deeds and great work. This year the City Council encouraged nominations from residents in the city for those they felt deserved recognition for the work they do. Nominations came flooding in and a panel of Southampton VIPs chose their winners and runners up for the four categories: Foster Parent, Good Neighbour, Young Carer, and Healthy Icon. The worthy winners were invited to an awaards ceremony in the Mayor’s Parlour in the Civic Centre presided over by Jules and Bunker from the Heart FM breakfast show. Families and friends came along to see their loved one getting the credit they deserve, and the thanks of Southampton City Council for everything they do.

With a few tears and lots of smiles, the “I am Southampton” awards were a great way to recognise local heroes.
