Now playing: The Queen comes to Southampton

Her Majesty The Queen named Cunard’s new liner “Queen Elizabeth” in a moving ceremony held alongside Associated British Port’s new Ocean Terminal in Southampton.

The City of Southampton celebrated the event with a series of free activities – from Elizabethan music and hog roasts in the Guildhall Square – to screenings of archive film of the original Queen Elizabeth and other liners – to an evening with one of the top Queen Tribute Bands.

And the day after the ceremony the newly named Queen Elizabeth set sail on from her home port of Southampton on her maiden voyage.
